  SPRING LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Dear Fellow Owner,

Welcome to the First Day of Spring!  I am as surprised at writing this letter as you are in receiving it.  Unexpectedly there is something to inspire you to look for improvements.  How would you like to see the waste land around us improved before it is built on?   Wild flowers; pop up temporary beds;  more plant pots;  a scheme to show colourfully what an attractive area Western Harbour is becoming?    All you need to do is say now “I like the idea” and things could begin to happen. Say nothing and nothing will happen. What’s the catch? Let me explain.

I am the Vision Facilitator of The Heart of Newhaven, a project to acquire Victoria Primary School by Community Asset Transfer for imaginative future use by the whole community once the children move to new premises to be built between Asda and the David Lloyd Centre.

One of the essentials in this enterprise is to unite the “two halves” of Newhaven, with most of the increase in population expected in the area in which The Element is just one of many new developments. We have to demonstrate that the whole area is alive with enthusiastic activity but needs a central base as its hub from which to operate – literally The Heart of Newhaven. We live in the oldest part, which is the sea without which there would be no New Haven!

So one of many ideas being floated is to show that the developing part of Newhaven is brimming with activity, meeting up and doing things together –  an extension  of our clear-up operation last summer, when we cleared rubbish from wasteland.  Now the chance of more creative work in the outdoor space, including the coastline itself and all the reclaimed land. Enthusiasm can attract funding from grants etc.  At the moment just a dream. Yes/No?  An answer must be given now to get the ball rolling so please email your response.

Now dates for your diary.  You are about to be invited by The Element Factors (TEF) to an Open Doors Evening in their foyer on Wednesday 27th March from 7pm when they will update you on many issues including contract work, parking and improvements.

Your Committee is continuing to respond to matters raised at the AGM and a page is about to go on our website tenoa.co.uk Living in The Element: The Element Code.  We are looking for new committee members and someone to manage our website.

We have decided to move our SummerGarden Fest to Saturday 1st June from noon and are looking for enthusiasts to help organise it.    Our AGM is likely to be in September again.

Lots going on from Spring through Summer.   Please contact me with any comments or questions: [email protected]  or use any of the following details: 33/9 Western Harbour View, EH6 6PG 0131 555 2217, mobile 07749710369, email [email protected]

Yours sincerely,   Rodney Matthews  (Chairman)
