FM Western Harbour – update October 2026

by | Oct 9, 2026 | News

Despite there being over 500 objections, FM Western Harbour Ltd obtained planning permission (by 1 vote) for 155 flats in the area to the east of Western Harbour View. In the last few days, you will have seen fencing being erected round the site. This area had been given a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) by Edinburgh City Council but at the Planning Committee meeting in March, the Committee took the view that this building development takes priority over the preservation of these trees so their TPO was ignored. (So much for preservation of “green space”). I attended the planning meeting on behalf of TENOA and raised objections.

The development has parking for only 9 cars as the Council wants to encourage everyone to use public transport. So, we can expect increasing pressure on the limited car parking around Western Harbour.

The same company is also seeking planning permission for development on the remaining plots adjacent to Western Harbour View plots A2, B1, B2, C (see Planning reference 26/03141/PAN on the City of Edinburgh Planning website). As part of the planning process the company is required to hold public consultations, the first of which was on 21st August which I attended. Their plans were at a very basic stage with little detail.

The second was advertised for 1st October at the Heart of Newhaven building. I went to this but found it had been cancelled and rescheduled for the 29th October. Some of you will remember this happened at the planned public consultation on the site (A1) for which they now have planning permission. They also rescheduled this event at the last minute. I am sure this tactic by FM is not intended to dissuade neighbouring owners and others from raising objections to their plans.

If you want to object to (or support) FM’s application, please go to the consultation on 29th October 4pm – 8pm at the Heart of Newhaven, Main Street (the old Primary School)
